Body of My Body

In a series of photographic portraits of parents and children of all generations and age groups, spontaneity and momentariness are combined with an arranged expression of the face, the better to show their similarities or common characteristics. Standing before the lens of the author were family, friends and fellow citizens whom she met in passing and connected with their parents or children precisely on the basis of this similarity, the physical characteristics that they have in common. The photographs are devoid of all elements that might have any influence on their interpretation: the focus is fixed on the very portraits themselves. They are monochromatic, and have accordingly gained in subtlety and interpretability, the black background and dark clothing bringing the faces of the people and their characteristics even more to the fore. The principal objective of the exhibition is to enhance the temporary set up of the Museum with themes covering genetics and biological anthropology embodied in the artistic idiom of the author via contemporary photography. The photographic exhibition Body of My Body is meant primarily for the local audience, because of the familiar faces there in front of the artist’s camera, the curiosity value. Fellow citizens are the objects of photography and are thus actively involved in the culture of the city of Dubrovnik.
