The Dubrovnik Carnival returns in full splendor, bringing a rich program filled with dance, laughter, and creative masks! From February 21 to March 4, the city will come alive with the spirit of tradition and carnival joy.
Carnival plays a significant role in Dubrovnik’s cultural heritage. It has always been a time of music, joy, games, and parades. During the carnival, especially in the Renaissance era, the city would come to life, social barriers would break down, and the streets would become the center of events. For the people of Dubrovnik, this festive period meant entertainment, indulging in food and drinks, embracing life’s passions, overturning power structures, and expressing social critique. The streets would transform into vibrant stages filled with music, processions, theatrical performances, colorful masks, and lively dances. This unique carnival spirit has been preserved to this day, making the Dubrovnik Carnival one of the most anticipated events of the year.
The rich program includes masked school and kindergarten days on Stradun, spectacular evening parties and concerts, a competition in preparing the traditional “šporki makaruli” dish, street performances, dance spectacles, and valuable prizes for the best masks.
Join in and be part of the most joyful tradition in the city!
